The 2023 Hanover Boys Soccer Blog is Open For Business

 Dear Players, Parents and Friends -

Welcome to the 2023 Hanover Boys Soccer Blog. For a number of years, I have written a blog to share information about the boys' teams at Hanover High School For many of those yers, that has included game reports, practice schedules, and news updates.  Last year, the advent of the Final Forms data base management program utilized by the HHS Athletic Department made communication with players and parents much easier and more efficient.  Since then, I have used Final Forms for all of the daily information about practice and game logistics, weather and school updates, and all of the information required to smoothly operate a program involving 96 players and 8 coaches.  However, sending game reports via Final Forms excludes all of those friends of the program - alumni, parents of former players, and friends/supporters in the community.  So it is logical to continue to blog and invite everyone interested to stay up to date with game reports and other pertinent news about the program.  With the help of the other coaches and some player/reporters, I hope to publish game reports for all four teams, as well as other important news.  I'll begin these immediately, starting with game reports from our opening matches last Friday with Concord, which were very successful for the Bears.  Stay tuned for those game stories within the next 24 hours.

Bears Beat Central 2-0 in Semifinals to Advance to Title Game

 Hanover continued to play their best soccer in their most important games, beating a strong Central team 2-0 in the Division One semifinals at rain-soaked Stellos Stadium. The win propels the Bears to the Championship game on Friday at 5:00 against Bedford at Stellos.  Top-seeded Hanover, now 16-2, will be in the finals for the third straight year and fourth out of five. Zach Tracy scored both Hanover goals, one in each half, and the Bears had their best defensive outing of the year, shutting out a Central squad that had beaten them 2-0 only three weeks ago.  It was the second year in a row that Hanover has avenged a regular-season loss in the semifinals.  Games at this stage of the season, when all but the best teams have gone home, tend to be hard-fought and low scoring. Hanover Falls in the Finals, Losing 4-0 to Bedford

 Hanover's dream season came to a nightmarish conclusion before a packed Stellos Stadium, as the Bears were unable to overcome a slow start and lost 4-0 to Bedford in the NHIAA Championship game.  Hanover trailed 1-0 at the half, and despite fighting hard surrendered three second half goals to a hungry, opportunistic Bedford squad. The Bears finished the season with a 16-3 record, with two of those losses coming at the hands of Bedford. Hanover entered the game feeling confident but certainly not cocky.  Coming off a great performance against Central in the semifinals, the top-seeded Bears had every reason to believe that there was a good chance that their third straight trip to the finals would conclude successfully.
